Easy Tips for Achieving a Balanced Diet

Easy Tips for Achieving a Balanced Diet

Everyone knows that it’s important to eat a healthy, balanced diet. What’s not always clear, however, is how to achieve this goal.

In fact, more than half of Americans surveyed by Nestlé and Harris Interactive said they are unaware of MyPlate guidelines, which are dietary guidelines from the USDA that tell us the foods we need to eat to have a nutritious diet. However, the good news is that two-thirds of those surveyed also said they would be interested in learning about simple ways of following dietary guidelines by incorporating healthier prepared and whole foods into their diet.

That’s why we created the Balance Your Plate with Nestlé program. It offers easy solutions to help you create deliciously balanced, perfectly portioned meals that include the foods you love while meeting MyPlate guidelines.

Want to get started? Try our Daily Meal Plan ideas and these other easy steps!

  • Plan ahead to make staying on track easy!
Fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables, and make it colorful. The more variety, the more nutrients.
  • Round out your plate. Having a frozen entrée? Add a piece of fruit, whole-grain roll, a glass of milk and a side salad made from dark, leafy greens and crunchy vegetables.
  • Crazy-busy week ahead? Plan for it by keeping a selection of frozen entrées, fruits and vegetables on hand for a quick, nutritious and delicious meal when you’re pressed for time (and you’ll be less likely to order take-out, too)!

If you want to closely track your food intake and fitness activities, try the “SuperTracker” tool on the USDA website, ChooseMyPlate.gov.
