Cleaning an Oven

So your lasagna bubbled over and your souffle exploded? Not to worry - cleaning your oven is not the all-day chore it used to be.

Steps:

  1. Remove oven racks and place them in soapy water to soak.
  2. Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
  3. Turn on your automatic oven cleaner; this usually entails locking the door and turning the function switch to “clean.”
  4. Let the oven do its work; it will heat for several hours, charring off baked-on foods.
  5. Turn the oven off and spray the inside with oven cleaner.
  6. Allow to sit for 10 minutes.
  7. Wipe the cleaner and dirt away with a damp sponge, rinsing frequently.
  8. Dry with a soft cloth.

A long time ago I read somewhere to put the racks inside a garbage bag, spray the oven cleaner on them, twist-tie the bag closed. When the oven is ready, the racks will be ready to wipe clean (no scrubbing).
