Edible Valentines are a perfect way to share the love with just about anyone in your life! You can make them fun, cute, elegant, romantic, or all of the above depending on who is receiving them.
What You’ll Need:
Step One: Baking
- NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Tub Dough
- Multiple sizes of heart shaped cookie cutters
- Red, pink, and white frosting
- Assorted cake decorating tips and pastry bags (you can substitute ordinary zip top bags in a pinch!)
- Sprinkles, conversation hearts, or other nonpareils
- Lollipop sticks or popsicle sticks
- Cellophane favor bags
- Red or pink ribbon
NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® refrigerated cookie dough makes this step quicker than ever! Simply roll out your cookie dough with a little bit of flour to prevent sticking, and use heart shaped cookie cutters to cut out your edible valentines. You can even cut heart-shaped “windows” in bigger cookies and fill with crushed red candies before baking for an elegant look. When they come out of the oven, insert a lollipop stick or popsicle stick in the bottom of the heart to create a “cookie pop,” great for gifts and favors. Be sure to allow your cookies to cool completely before decorating.
Step Two: Decorating
For icing lovers, start by spreading a layer of red, pink, or white icing over each heart. Then use a pastry bag or tubes of ready-to-use frosting to add scalloped borders, polka dots, stripes, and other easy but stylish designs. You can also write messages in icing on larger cookies, such as “Be Mine,” “Happy V-Day,” and “I’m Sweet on You.” Or write one letter on each cookie and arrange them on a platter to spell out a message. Not feeling artistic? No problem! Just add some heart-shaped sprinkles or other WONKA® candies for a fun and simple approach. Once your icing is dry to the touch, you’re ready for packaging.
Step Three: Packaging
For individual Valentines, package your cookies or cookie pops in festive cellophane party favor bags and tie a ribbon around the neck of the bag. If you don’t have favor bags, just use ordinary sandwich bags and decorate them with stickers. For an elegant and romantic gift, arrange your cookies in a tin with some red or pink tissue paper. These finishing touches won’t change the taste of the cookies, but they’re sure to make a sweet impression!
Looking for some variations?
Try making chocolate chip heart-shaped cookies instead of sugar cookies. Or make one big bar cookie in a heart shaped pan. With a batch of cookie dough, a little creativity, and an occasion to celebrate, the possibilities are endless!
