Measuring liquid ingredients and dry ingredients requires different equipment and techniques. Use these tips to make sure your measurements are exact.

  • Liquid Measure: Use glass or plastic measuring cups with a pour spout. With the cup sitting on a flat surface, read at eye level. Fill to exactly the line indicated.

  • Dry Measure: Use standard graded sets of four: 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup and 1 cup. Spoon dry ingredients into measure and level off with metal spatula.

  • Measuring Spoons: Measure small quantities of ingredients with metal or plastic measuring spoons. Use measuring spoons for exact measurements. For dry ingredients, fill spoon and level off with metal spatula. Precise measurements are essential for successful baking.
