  • 2 packages (16 ounces each) frozen cut broccoli
  • 1 small onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon bottled minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 cups dry NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Instant Nonfat Dry Milk

Remove from heat; cool slightly. Transfer half of vegetable-broth mixture to blender or food processor (in batches, if necessary); cover. Blend until desired consistency. Return to saucepan.

COMBINE dry milk, water and flour in medium bowl; mix well. Stir into soup; season with salt and ground black pepper, if desired. Heat through. Add 1 cup cheese. Stir over low heat until melted. Sprinkle with additional cheese.

This was a fantastic soup! I'm not that into cheese and broccoli soups, but my family is so I gave this a shot, and they all loved it! To the person who said there was only 1/2 cup of wet ingredients....I think you forgot about the 3 cans of broth!

    Only one problem

    Barbara from

The soup taste great and the time to prepare it is wonderful. My only "dislike" is mixing 2 cups of dry goods, the milk and flour, with only 1/2 cup of liquid. Almost impossible to moisten all the dry goods. Then when you drop the mound into the pot it clumps. Any suggestions? Is their an error in the amounts?

This soup was great. It reminded me of a split pea, but with broccoli insead of peas. My husband loved it. I couldn't really taste the cheese that I added, so I wouldn't call it broccoli cheese soup, but broccoli soup. It created more dishes than I would have liked, but the soup was very good and it made good left overs. I would definitely make it again.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar blend (such as SPLENDA)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons dark rum
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped ginger
  • 1 teaspoon NESCAFÉ TASTER'S CHOICE House Blend 100% Pure Instant Coffee Granules
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 4 (about 1 1/4 pounds total) boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
  • 2 large cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions:

COMBINE sugar blend, ketchup, rum, lime juice, butter, ginger, coffee granules and allspice in small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil; stir until coffee and sugar blend are dissolved. Remove from heat; set aside.

TRIM chicken of any visible fat. With sharp knife, make two diagonal slits about 1/2-inch deep on the top side of each breast.

COMBINE garlic, oil, salt and pepper in small bowl. Rub mixture all over chicken. Arrange chicken slit-side-up on rack in shallow baking pan. Brush chicken with glaze; reserve remaining glaze. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

PREHEAT broiler.

BROIL chicken for 5 minutes. Turn chicken over; coat with reserved glaze. Broil for an additional 4 to 5 minutes. Turn chicken over again; coat with glaze. Broil for an additional 2 minutes or until tops are sizzling and brown.

    Plate-Licking Good

    Katie from Germany

This chicken was excellent! My husband is actually from the Caribbean, and he loved it, and my 2 year old cleaned her plate, and that's saying something! It did need a little longer to cook than noted on the thicker pieces, but it was sooo amazingly tender. I listened to earlier reviews and nixed the coffee, and I used twice the amount of fresh garlic called for. I used pre-squeezed lime juice because I had it on hand. It was perfect, but I want to make it even better. Next time, I'm going to add more brown sugar for a thicker glaze, and use fresh lime to get some of the pulp in there. Don't skimp on the rum! I was afraid because it smelled so strongly at first, but now I wish I'd used more. It was polished off with no leftovers and even the serving plate was licked clean!

    AMAZING with Chicken or Pork!!!!!!

    Kim from Long Island, NY

I have made this recipe several times already and each time, it gets better and better. I omitted the allspice and ginger because I don't care for them. I have also used regular bbq sauce, as well as a Hot Pepper Chipotle Raspberry saucein place of ketchup and it still came out amazing. This is definitely a family favorite now! I tend to make it at least once a week, alternating pork and chicken. It's amazing and one of the best recipes I have found on this site!

    Janine from Voorhees, NJ

I made this dish last night for my family. It was a huge hit. The chicken was cooked perfectly... very tender and juicy and the glaze was delicious. If you're making this dish, be careful with the all-spice, it can overpower the entire dish. I also found that we could have used a bit more glaze. There was enough to cover the pieces of chicken, but my family and I love to dip. It was easy enough though to make a little extra.

    Very Tender

    K. Ellis from

I tried this recipie with my husband and kids and they loved the tenderness of the chicken breast. The flavour would of been alot nicer without adding the coffee, which I think was abit over bearing. Especially if your not really a coffee lover. I used Rum essence instead and again would taste just as nice without adding that as well.

    Addie Toy from Murfreesboro, TN

I absolutely love this recipe and I make it all the time! It is easier to make than it initially seems. I leave out the rum and coffee in the glaze and it still tastes great. I also just bake the chicken for 30 minutes at 375 degrees instead of broiling it. I still turn it some during cooking to coat the under side and only broil it the last 5-7 minutes or so. It's also great to heat up some of the left over glaze to use as a dipping sauce for the chicken while eating. Yummy! My husband even likes this dish and he is very picky.

    milena from

This chicken was really very tasty. I followed the instructions on the ingredients, but instead of messing with the broiler. I seasoned the chicken with the salt and pepper and put it in the oven, once cooked. I mixed the rest of the ingredients brown sugar, etc and mixed it all together and put it in a skillet to cook, once the sugar was caramelized and blended with the other ingredients, I coated the chicken in the sauce and cooked it for 1-3 minutes and served it. It was easier and pretty tasty.

Wow....my mom never likes what I cook but with this chicken, she as blown away. I used ginger powder instead of real chopped up ginger. Kat from Fairview Heights, IL

This was fun to try, but a little daunting if you are a beginner cook. Using the broiler and all the turning requires watching your dinner cook, so don't plan on leaving the kitchen for twenty minutes at least! I couldn't find pre-chopped ginger so I actually bought the root! It's a bit on the sweet side, but yummy over all...

Great Taste, A lot of Work

    susie from silverdale, wa

This chicken tasted great once it was done, but in my opinion it was a lot of work for what it was. I really liked the sauce, and substituted vanilla for the rum and we served it with rice and veggies. My husband thought this recipe was just average, and I thought it was very tasty. If we make it again, I think we will put it on the grill instead of under the broiler. It would be nice to have a little extra sauce to pour over it once it was cooked, the sauce was sooo yummy!

What a breath of fresh air for chicken lovers. The only changes I made was using spiced rum and grilling the chicken (never have been a big fan of cooking under the broiler). I bet this would be just as good with chicken thighs. We always use chicken breasts that are pounded flat for even cooking. I served this with grilled zuchini and a black bean salsa. The ingredients for the salsa are: 1 can back beans drained, 1 can Mexicorn drained, 1/2 can diced tomatoes, 1/2 onion diced, 1/2 avocado diced, 1/2 nectarine diced, juice of 1/2 lime, splash of olive oil, mint and cilantro chopped and cumin & corriander. Next time I will try it over rice...maybe coconut rice?!

So, I usually stick to what I know. I have to say that I really liked this dish. Surprisingly, this was one recipe that I did not have to add any extras to. I would recommend this dish to anyone. It has become a family favorite.

Didn't have some of the ingredients so used Zesty Garlic ketchup for the plain, Spiced Rum, bottled lime juice, jarred minced ginger, and pumpkin pie spice. Grilled the breasts on an indoor grill used in the patio and it did very well. I did double the glaze recipe and may try it on pork tenderloin. Thanks again!!!!

    Exciting Flavor

Alarice Rainey from Las Vegas, NV

I made this recipe one night & my family loved it! The dish is different than the usual middle of the week chicken dinner. The only thing is, maybe I have to get my broiler fixed because it was more crispy and darker on the outside that I thought it would be. All in all, a great taste & change from the norm.

    Liana from Altamonte Springs, FL

I'm new to cooking and thought this sounded interesting as an "experiment". Turns out, I'm not half bad! And neither is this recipe! My fiance couldn't get over the flavor and was amazed at the combination of ingredients. He cleared his plate and offered to do the dishes - I LOVE this recipe!

    excellent addition

    k. Shafiee from Hollywood, FL

This is wonderful. It was fun to make and the whole house smelled great. This is the second time I've made this, since after just a week my husband asked for it again. I had my kids to dinner and they said it was great. My only suggestion is make sure the chicken is done. It's hard to tell because of the color of the sauce so double check. I had to pop it in the micro for a few mintues to finish cooking.

I really liked this recipe, but then I am partial to sweet sauces on my chicken. My husband prefers more savory or spicy sauces. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the chicken and I will tuck this one away and make it again this summer for friends.

    Lorraine from West Haven, CT

This recipe was quick and easy. Sauce was a little pungent at first. I was very skeptical that my family would eat it, they hate just about everything that isn't junk food. But even my 13 year old, who never cleans his plate, ate it and even made a point to say he liked it! This is a must try for picky eaters.

I made this for company last night. I'm always a little scared to make something new for friends without trying it on my husband first, but this was great. It took a little time, but it was delicious. My friend asked me for the recipe. I will definitely make this again and again!

    Finger licking good!!!

    Carlos from Austin, TX

I was tired of making lemon pepper chicken and was looking for a good and easy recipe since I usually don't have much time to cook. I made this recipe for myself, but once my roommates got a smell of it, they charged at it and said it was probably my best dish yet. As other writers have stated, you should double the recipe so that you enough sauce to glaze the chicken more than once on both sides. Also I made a few substitutions where I didn't have the ingredients and it still came out great: white rum instead of dark nutmeg instead of allspice vegetable oil instead of olive oil no ginger Guys you can really impress a lady with this one. All you need to know is how to turn on an oven.

I tried this dish for my wife for Valentines Day and it was absolutely the best chicken I have ever had! The flavor was amazing! She has never been one to try anything new and is very picky about what she eats but she loved it! I doubled the sauce measurements as suggested and had just the right amount. I am also not the most kitchen savy person in the world and it was some work but the results were 100% worth the little amount of time and effort needed! This dish will definitely be made again in our household!

This chicken looks like something you would order from a high end restaurant! My husband was impressed with the appearance as well as the taste and I found a different way to cook chicken. The sauce was a little too tangy for me, but nothing that I cannot adjust over time. I will definitely make this recipe for my family again:)
