I just made this. I added 1 can of Rotel instead of the wine. I also added garlic, bell peppers and garlic powder, oregano. It was still not that awesome. I think it needs sugar...like a marinara type sauce. I'd probably try it again, but add some sugar to the sauce.

Not sure if the wine is "the" item for this recipe. Ididn't have the wine, so made it without. I found this recipe very bland. One kid ate it the other didn't. Won't be making this again.

Very good Dinner and easy to make, although the portion sizes seem a little off, instead of 8 oz of meat u used 16 or 1lb i doubled the cheese portions as well it just seemed that the current asking portion was too small, the dish turned out great but i also added itailin seasoning and some crushed garlic. it went over great.

I made it last night while making dinner. It sure looks like very little meat. Not enough for 2 layers. Maybe my pan is really big. I hope it's good. We'll try it tonight. Then I'll know if I need more of something. I didn't put in the bulion but added some spices. I hope it's good.

Great family recipe!
Georgia from
I took the advice of some of the other reviewers and added a few things. I added minced garlic as well as italian seasoning. I also made a mistake and bought one can of tomato paste and once can of tomato sauce, which I still used. Finally, we added parmesian cheese once it was finished. My husband even commented on how good this casserole was. We ate it over the course of 3-4 four days. Great family recipe. It was delicious.

my secret
Donna from
I made this casserole for my boyfriend (now husband) and he liked it so much he thought I could cook. I never told him I got the recipe off Meals.com he thinks I just made it up or something. So he goes around telling people how good I cook. I keep coming back to meals.com for new ideas but I have to be sure he is not around so he never finds out I can hardly make potato salad w/o detailed instructions. I did add some herbs and parsley to the stuff to make it more Italian. I'm getting better at the cooking thing now that we are married and I have learned to put my own spin on recipes but I still burn things from time to time. ; -)

Beef Pene Pasta Casserole
Frances Newell from
Woodstock, GA
This is a great recipe and I'm so glad it was posted - even if I did tweak it a little. I didn't have all of the ingredients the evening I made it so instead of the tomato paste I used tomato sauce, omitted the water and added about 1/2 teaspoon oregano and 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning. I also added a healthy dash of Worcestershire sauce. And I loved the touch of wine blended with the other seasonings. I'll definitely make this again (and probably use the same items I used this time!).

Very Tasty!!
Maria from

My husband and I really enjoyed this recipe, and he's pretty picky about what he eats. After reading all of the reviews, I added garlic salt, italian seasoning, a little extra cheese and wine and made it with a pound of beef. Next time I won't put in the extra wine because, for me, it was a little overpowering, but still very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the leftovers and I will definitely make this again.

I loved it!
Brenda from CA from
I thought it sounded good the way it was intended to be done, but I saw no spices or any other flavor besides the bouillon. I changed it a bit and maybe it will be more enjoyable if you take my tips. I added basil, italian parsley, chicken boullion instead of beef, pepper, salt and less red wine I also added more beef and more cheese!
-
Pretty Good!!!

I made this recipe without the wine and it was great. I love red sauce so next time I'll probably make a little more. I also used 1 lb of ground beef. A hit in my house! Will try again.
-
Excellent
Jennifer from
This is the second time I have made this recipe and it is excellent. I use half cup less water than called for and add half cup more wine and I had spices to give more flavor. Since I cook for myself, I freeze the leftovers which taste even better after being reheated.

Not What It Seem To Be
Virginia Gentry from
Gary, IN
After looking at the picture of the recipe, I thought this would be a great dish. It was easy to make, but when you dig in, it taste like ground beef, onions, penne pasta, tomato sauce, and cheese. That's it, nothing more. Because I am a soul food cook and experiment with a lot of spices and sauces I was thinking this would have a lot of zestyness and a spicy (not hot)taste to it. If you are looking for something quick and simple, this may be for you, but if you are looking for something with a little kick, this ain't where its at!
-
good, but a little strong
Beth from
Charlotte NC
I used elbow macaroni instead of penne. Other than that, I made the recipe as directed. It was pretty good, and I didn't find it so be too dry, as someone else commented. I did, however, find that the sauce had a somewhat strong flavor, perhaps due to the wine or bullion. (I think 1 T is too much.) If I make this again, I will use water instead of wine and reduce the bullion.
-
Nice
Debbie from

While we both enjoyed the flavor of this, we found it a bit dry. Next time I will make more sauce. Otherwise, perfect!

Good Stuff!!
New Mommy and Wife from
I saw this recipe before and made it, except I used sausage instead of hamburger, I also added garlic and parsley. My husband loved it! He said it was amazing. That night I had no left-overs. He ate it all.
So if you prefer pork over beef, you should try it.

Chocolate and hazelnut flavors combine in these elegant custards to create the perfect ending to an elegant meal. They can even be made ahead of time which is a great time-saver.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
2/3 cup Hazelnut Flavor NESTLÉ COFFEE-MATE Liquid Coffee Creamer
2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
3 large egg yolks
Directions:
PREHEAT oven to 300° F.
PLACE morsels, Coffee-mate and cream in medium, heavy-duty saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until morsels are melted and mixture is completely smooth. Remove from heat.
WHISK egg yolks in small mixer bowl until thoroughly mixed. Whisk about 1 tablespoon chocolate mixture into egg mixture. Continue to gradually add chocolate mixture until combined. Pour evenly into five 4-ounce ramekins or custard cups. Place ramekins in 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Pour hot water into baking dish to 1/2-inch depth (about halfway up sides of ramekins).
BAKE for 30 minutes or until custards are set around edges and centers still move. Cool ramekins in dish until cool enough to handle. Remove ramekins from water; refrigerate to cool completely. Once cool, cover with plastic wrap. Custards can be made up to 2 days in advance.
NOTE: If using shallow ramekins, reduce baking time by 5 minutes.
