Cooking sugar is an art, but an art worth developing when the result is as good as this Caramel Sauce. Drizzle this luscious concoction over baked apples, waffles or vanilla ice cream.
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 can (14 oz.) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened, divided
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

STIR in sweetened condensed milk (mixture will foam up); do not scrape sides of pan. Add 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, one tablespoon at a time, stirring well after each addition. Stir in remaining butter and vanilla extract until smooth. Serve over ice cream or cake, if desired.

When the kids go back to school I start planning my holiday menus. I have always tried to introduce my family to one thing new each year. I introduced your caramel sauce years ago and it quickly became a fall tradition. It's a great way to welcome in fall and introduce my family to different kinds of apples. It also makes a great teacher gift to go along with that traditional "apple".

It was very easy to make since i keep all the ingredients on hand my kids loved it with apples and i also dizzle it over my cinnamon rolls it's a big hit
Caramel sauce plus fruit
I have made this and used bananas, butter peacan ice cream and this sauce and it's wonderful.
I wil never buy bottled caramel sauce again!
I needed a caramel sauce for topping a Pumpkin 4-Layer Cake and this was it!!!! Common ingredients and fairly easy to make. My guests loved it! I ended up giving the leftover sauce to my friends to take home because they begged!
Grainy but taste good
This is an easy, quick, and tasty recipe. My problem was that it turned out a little grainy. Not sure if I under or over cooked it. Very good on my favorite Caramel Apple Pie I made for friends as a gift.
