    Delicious

My mom has been making this for us for years and it's always delicious. She excludes the water chestnuts, however. But it is definitely a great party appetizer and a fun weekend family treat.

    Blech!

Nicci Butler from St. Joseph, MI

I really thought all the different ingredients that separately I love would meld together into a really great dish. WRONG! I took a double batch to a party and brought home most of both loaves. It was a mushy, slimy, salty mess and tasted just awful. I cannot think of anything to make the recipe better. Just make something else and steer clear of this disaster!

    Family Favorite

    Jennifer from Henryville, IN

Three years ago at Thanksgiving I took one loaf for my family to try. Since then, I have been "required" to bring this every year. Great dish!

    Very good

    Jean from Royal Oak, MI

I made two of them and took them to a surprise party. Everyone loved it. The only thing that I would do next time is allow more time to make it. The presentation of it....looked great!! I had to run off numerous copies of the recipe to give out.

    Excellent Football Treat

Libby Tatum from Port A, TX

I have made this without the water chestnuts and with, either is wonderful, we have also used dijon mustard instead of tabasco with shredded swiss cheese. We love all kinds of cheeses and all kinds of condiments and have tried several, we even made three different kinds for the bowl games, all were devored! It is so easy and so tasty, my kids ask for this for parent night at school and for basketball parties.

I have made this several times and always get great reviews. The only thing I leave off that's on the list is the water chestnut.

This bread is awesome. I've made it several times now, and get rave reviews every time. I made it exactly as the recipe says. Anytime I need to bring a snack to a party, I bring this one, and it gets gobbled up fast.

    Selfishly Wonderful

My husband loved this so much, he makes me hide it from guests so that he can have it all to himself. I have to start makeing double so that my husband can have his own....okay....for me as well.

    Great!!!

    Kathy from

My husband made this but he left out the water chesnuts (he doesn't like them). He made it for a poker party and it went over really well and is definitely a must keep. He had some difficulty stuffing the bread and didn't quite make the cuts deep enough but live and learn for next time.

    This was AWESOME

    PantherRoma from Albuquerque, NM

Instead of doing this in a checkerboard cut, I hollowed out the loaf and put the stuffing inside that way. I didn't use the chipped beer, but regular hamburger meat. The taste was amazing, the recipe was easy, and it was quick to make. I was cooking for a crowd, and everyone loved it. Definitely a must have for cookbooks.

I substituted hamburger meat for the chipped beef and it was a big hit. I made it for a christmas party everyone loved it so much they had me make it again for new years and it is very easy.

Tastes great! I omitted the water chesnuts, because they just didn't seem to go well with everything else. I got rave reviews!!!

    Easy and great

    Laure from

First time I made this, it was fairly easy, but the directions took a couple times to read until I understood how to make the cuts in the bread. Got a lot of Ohh's and ahh's from my guests and everyone who tried it wanted the recipe. I would recommend this to anyone who is tired with the same old same old.
