I wouldn't call them a brownie. But they are a very good snack cake especially around Washington's birthday when you want a cherry recipe.

We loved the malt flavor of the brownies but I did chop the cherries very finely so that we would taste the flavor but not notice the pieces themselves. Good recipe.

My eldest daughter got married last Saturday. Guess what the bottom layer of her wedding cake was????? Cherry Brownie! It was so good, that my niece asked for the recipe to put in her wedding cake next June! I'd say that the entire reception gave this dessert 5 "Brownie" points!
