    Something Missing

    Pamela McCandless from Auburn, IN

I made a bunch of these to give for the holidays that just past. The reviews are in and all agree that something was missing. I had a couple of jars left over so I thought I would give them a try. I immediately had to agree that something just wasn't right. It was the missing egg. The second batch was made with the addition of an egg. That was exactly what was missing. The directions definitely need to be rewritten with the addition of an egg. Everything could be left the same. I made a couple of extra jars and played around with the ingredients, but always remembered the egg.

    Good gift~Great brownies

    Marie DeAngelis from Sunrise, FL

This is a great brownie recipe! The only thing that could possibly make it better would be for it to be as easy as a mix... and here it is! I make up some for myself to keep in Tupperware containers for a quick to fix treat. A pretty, reusable jar with the mix is a good welcome gift for new neighbors, and I always add the verybestbaking.com web site to the card as an added "gift." This is usually a good conversation starter too, especially if the new neighbor is a baker! I love it!

Brownie in a Jar - Great Gifts!

    Linda Culpepper from Laingsburg, MI

When you give this as a gift, you see people's eyes light right up! A package of hot cocoa attached is also a nice touch. I received one from my son and I still have it - I want to keep it forever...If you can add the other items in a box so they have ALL the ingredients (egg, etc.), that WOWS 'em too!

This is a very easy and inexpensive gift for busdrivers, secretaries and such. It is easy to do if you pour slowly. I put a (new) little sock top tied with yarn to look like a hat. It was well received.

Janice Daniel from Spring Hill, FL

Last year I gave these as gifts. I decorated the tops of the jars with decorative ribbons and hung little ornaments (kitchen themed..) from the ribbons. They not only taste wonderful but, the presentation was impressive. I plan on giving these again this year to teacher's aides, neighbors, and people that helped me out this year. Good to keep a few on hand for those who stop by at Holiday time. Its always nice to have something under the tree for them.

Wow! This is amazing! Not only is it a cute and inventive gift for so many events, but it is a simple recipe that even the most novice of bakers can have fun with. I used a 18x4 pyrex dish and baked the brownies for about 30 minutes, just until a toothpick came out slightly sticky. I think next time I will try mint instead of the vanilla for a refreshing summer version :)

This is a wonderful way to welcome somebody to the neighborhood, especially neighbors with children. The recipe is easy to make and that chocolate smell is very inviting in a home. I have done this for three different neighbors, each bragging about the idea and the wonderful taste. It is a great welcome to the neighborhood idea. I even keep a couple of these on hand, just for unexpected occassions.

    Joan Wehrum from ELGIN, SC

Yesterday my four year old grandson and I made this mix. We put the mix into a jar that we had decorated and he took it home to bake. He and his older sisters made them this morning and they tasted wonderful. This was really a fun project for us to make together, and he and his sister's had fun making them. He loves to help in the kitchen and this recipe was easy enough for him to make. I always look for recipes and ideas for my grandchildren when browsing NESTLE webpage.
