Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 can (12 fl. oz.) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
  • 1 can (14 oz.) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 packets (1 oz. each) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® CHOCO BAKE® Pre-Melted Unsweetened Chocolate Flavor
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

PREHEAT oven to 350° F.

COMBINE sugar and water in medium saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 3 to 4 minutes or until sugar is dissolved. Increase heat to medium-high; boil, without stirring, for about 15 minutes or until caramel-colored. Quickly pour over bottom and sides of twelve 6-ounce ramekins or custard cups (if syrup hardens, soften over low heat).

PLACE evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream cheese, butter, Choco Bake, eggs and vanilla extract in blender; cover. Blend well. Pour mixture into prepared custard cups. Arrange in 1 or 2 large baking pans; fill pans with hot water to 1-inch depths.

BAKE for 35 to 45 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks for 20 minutes. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Run knife around rims; gently shake to loosen. Invert onto serving dishes.

    A little advice

    joanna ruiz from Chicago, IL

Just a word of advice, make sure to add at least 1 tsp vanilla extract when you are cooking the water and sugar. If you don't, then your caramel sauce will have a burnt taste.

I make a lech flan just like this recipe and it very good. My suggestion is to use egg yolks only but increase the amount to 8 egg yolks.

    Soooooooo Good!!!

This is absolutely delicious. I used a 9 inch glass pie plate and 2-6 ounce ramekins. I placed the 3 dishes in one water bath & removed the 6 ounce dishes after 45 minutes. I removed the 9 inch pie plate after 2 hours. Perfect texture and taste. I hope this review helps!

This is a eliscious recipe on a warm Summer evenin

    Adrienne Royo from Wilmington, NC

This is a recipe that is easy to make, but if you want to make it in one dish, instead of the individual bowls it takes about two hours to bake, but it is worth the time.

Nice change from traditional flan recipes

    DOREEN FERRARO from ROCHESTER, NY

This is much easier to make than the traditional flan recipe a neighbor gave me years ago and the chocolate was a tasty addition. I agree with another comment that said suggestions for making one large flan would be a perk since there's times that's preferable. All in all this is great!

Making this for the fifth time and everytime I make it I fall in love with it all over again. It is unbelievably smooth and creamy with that great chocolate taste. Guess I must have given the recipe to at least 20 people.

    Tasty but not quite right

Michelle Lopez Fierer from Deerfield, IL

I wanted to make this for work, so I wanted to be able to travel with it easily. To do that I tried to make it in one big pan instead of the individual cups and I must have screwed up because it didn't turn out right. It was still tasty though, so I will give it another shot. It would be nice if the instructions included cooking time and recommendations for making a whole flan instead of individual servings.
