Chocolate Frosting

 Star(s)

S T from AL

I made this frosting and iced brownies with it. My son absolutely loved it and kept wanting me to make more. I finally made the brownies, but when I started to make the frosting ... I didn't have enough cocoa powder left! I grabbed a tub of store bought frosting from the cubbard, but he saw it and would not hear of it. He saved the brownies until I picked up more cocoa and made his "favorite" frosting!

This is a lovely fluffy, creamy frosting and especially good on cupcakes. Just make sure to beat it long enough for a fluffy consistency.

    No trans fats!

Jenifer Cramer from New Milford, CT

I hate to buy the containers of frosting because they seem to all have trans fats, which I don't want to feed to my family and friends. This frosting is easy, reliable, and tasty. No need to buy the other stuff!

    Nestle makes the difference

    kathleen dennis from Danville, NH

I had given up making my own chocolate frosting because I thought it always tasted tart. Using the Nestle cocoa made all the difference! No more bitterness!

    Not frosting

This is not frosting as it is very thin. It should be considered icing.

    Not for the novice!

    Julie Murry from MARIETTA, GA

I make chocolate frosting on a regular basis so I decided to try this one. The end result was smooth, creamy and delicious with a little adjustment. You may want to melt half of the butter and keep adding milk (a tablespoon at a time) until your frosting ecomes creamy. It is important to remember to keep adding milk. For beginning bakers you may want to alternate sugar and milk and always end with the milk. This will make for a shinier frosting.

    not so good

    MACIE MURPHY/SAUNDERS from BROOKS, AB

i tried this recipe for cupcakes and we all disagreed on it.It is something that i will not make again. It certainly did not fit the title chocolate lover's frosting at my house.

    better than canned

    maureen husser from WEATHERLY, PA

We like it with one little change in directions. I melt some of the butter or margarine and mix it with the cocoa first. Then I follow the rest of the directions. That's how my family likes it.

    It may be my fault.

    Jennifer Duncan from BRIGHTON, MI

I followed the directions for this recipe very carefully since it was my first time making frosting. It said to beat the first ingredients until "creamy" but mine was more crumbly. I'm not really sure what happened. I'll be trying this recipe again in the future and I really hope I have better results.

    Must try!!

Ashley Royal-Grise from North Little Rock, AR

I substituted the milk with heavy whipping cream. It was wonderful! This is the simplest frosting I've tried to make. It really is quick and easy. It is smooth and very rich!! I would probably not use it on a chocolate cake because of that, but it worked fabulously with my yellow cake mix. This will DEFINITELY become my "go-to" recipe from now on. Loads better than any store-bought product!

I love this recipe (and I've been a professional pastry chef for years). I was an a jam tonight - thinking I had the ingredients for a chocolate buttercream for some mini-devil's food cakes I made - I whipped up this recipe (with half the podwered sugar) and it was a perfect bittersweet compliment to my very sweet cakes - yeah!

Recipe is great! If you are stretched on your cocoa, it is good with just 4 Tablespoons of cocoa as long as you are putting it on a chocolate cake.
