An excellent bar cookie. Good for bake sales, pot luck dinners, & family desserts. I've also used strawberry or raspberry preserves instead of orange marmalade. Very good in any combination of chips with either marmalade or preserves. I also used peach jam with milk chocolate and peanut butter chips.

    Something different

    Layne Gunkel from Fremont, IN

The combination of orange & chocolate in this recipe reminded me of the Jaffa Cakes I'd tasted in England, so I emailed the recipe to my daughter, who lives in England, thinking she might like to serve it when entertaining her friends at tea. We prepared the recipe together during my visit last week. It met with mixed reviews; she and I love it, but my husband wasn't too enthusiastic about the taste of the marmalade. She & I decided it could be just as tasty for finicky eaters like her father by substituting raspberry or apricot preserves for the marmalade. She & I definitely will be making this recipe again not only in it's original version, but also with the variations we suggest, as it is something a bit different from the ordinary.

I made these bars with my assisted living residents today. It was very easy but smelling the bars bake was torture. Everyone just loved them, they had a wonderful time figuring out all the flavors. There wasn't one left so next time we'll have to double it. I even had a visitor ask me for the recipe!

I took these to an afternoon meeting where seveal people immedialtly asked for the recipe. Eveyone loved them! Since my husband likes nuts I added more to the crust and also sprinkled more on when I sprinkled the white chips and chocolate chips over the marmalade. Will make this again as it is delicious and very quick easy to make.

    Eileen Fukunaga from MONTEREY, CA

This was an easy recipe to put together. No walnuts so I used pecans, which I like better anyway. I ended up using three different flavors of jam and that made it fun. I also used a bag of the swirl semi-sweet and white chocolate chips instead of using 1/2 bag of each. My husband loves anything chocolate, so I made these for him. They smelled so good when they came out of the oven. Definitely making it again!

I loved these bars. I used pecans instead of walnuts. I thought there was going to be too much marmalade but everything turned out just right. I loved not having to bring out the mixer which made the preparation time so much quicker. Next time I would leave out the egg - it made the mixture sticky and not crumbly to spread over at the final stage.

These bar cookies are delicious when prepared exactly as the recipe has been written. However, I also have made them with milk chocolate and white or semi-sweet chocolate morsels, used a variety of nuts, and used apricot or peach preserves in place of the marmalade. All of these variations are (also) delcious!
