    My students made this

    Kathryn Howard from Reno

I teach 7th & 8th grade FMS (Family Consumer Science). My students made this pie and absolutely loved it! We made 24 pies, and only one group had problems with 'setting'. They all loved it, and many said they made it again at home!

    my husbands deja vu

    alicia molina from Monroe, CT

My husband used to work at this reasturant in mississippi when he was younger, this chocolate pie used to come in every morning and went to the frig, he would go sneak a peice everyday. When he left mississippi he thought it was chocolate chess pie ,so he has been looking for this pie for about 20 years or so. I tried cooking pies apox everyone I could find, no luck until I ran into this one I made it for him, his eyes just closed and he was 17 again back in the walk in frig at the restarant trying to get the pie finished before he was caught. Awesome thanks for bringing that memory back .

    Nothing Special

    Billie Oliver from Burlington, NC

Easy to make and no problem setting but to me, this recipe lacks something. I love chocolate but something was missing. I won't make this again. I would rather put forth more effort and be rewarded with exceptional flavor. Easy isn't always a plus for me.

    Chocolate Satin Syrup

Carrie Johnson from Pearl City, HI

Not sure what went wrong. I made the pie exactly as the instructions stated, but my pie never set up. It was more like syrup. My daughters liked spooning the syrup out to sip on, but I was hoping for a good dessert. What a waste of ingredients and time! May give it a second chance because the taste was yummy.

Even an 8th grader can do it

    Xandra Wingate from ,

Absolutely wonderful recipe. I made the crust homemade. For the filling, when mixing and heating the milk and yolks use a thermometer and stir COSTANTLY with the whisk until it gets to 185-190F. To cool faster use another pie tin and fill it with ice cubes and set the pie in it. Sets in about an hour and a half. Sift some unsweetened cocoa powder on top to add some interest. Works great, tastes great!

    smooth and creamy for sure!

robin taylor from Las Vegas, NV

they should re name this "Chocolate Truffle Heaven". Each bite was so thick and creamy and smooth. I made mine with a regular pie crust and it tasted wonderful. It set up perfectly! I was very careful to get the milk and egg yolk as hot as i could without letting it boil! I let it set up overnight and in the morning it was perfect chocolate satin. I had been craving chocolate for a couple of days and this hit the spot!

    Amazingly fabulous!

    Leslie Michael from ,

I didn't have any problems with this setting up, as some reviewers noted. It set perfectly for me, and this is now the ONLY chocolate pie recipe I will ever use! (I wonder if the problems others had with it setting or being grainy might be due to overheating the milk and eggs... you really do need to be careful not to overheat.)

    Very Unsuccessful As A Pie

Linda Duskey from Colorado Springs, CO

The end result of this recipe is far from being a standup pie. It never set, even after waiting overnight and it had a very gritty texture. It would be a great ice cream topping instead of a pie filling.

  • Star(s)

    Very disappointed!

    Lorraine Tygrett from ,

The pie never set to a good texture even after 6 hours in the refrigarator. It was like a pudding. It was supposed to be for Christmas family diner. I was very disappointed!

    Had a bit of trouble

    Misty Thompson from Norfolk, VA

The problem I am sure was me. I could not get it to set, and it was gritty for some reason. The steps were easy to follow and the instructions were clear. In spite of my problems the pie was still very tasty.

so easy...so delicious!! We ate it plain this time, as I'm not a fan of whipped cream. However, I think that when I make this pie for the holidays, I'll sprinkle each slice with a few chopped almonds and have whipped cream on hand for those who want it.

Just tried this recipe last nite. Although i used onle 10oz of dark chocolate, it tasted really really chocolaty. Like eating the chocolate bar itself. Maybe I'll try putting 1 whole egg and 1 egg yolk instead the next time. But for chocoholics, this is for u!

    Yes, it is good

    Marie Troyer from Binghamton, NY

Fairly easy to make, though it was a little nerve wracking making sure the mixture came to the right temp. I recommend straining the mixture into the pie crust though, to catch any lumps or cooked egg (I had some at least). Pie was really good though, rich and tasted a lot like candy coated chocolates.

    It's a hit!

    Louisa Grubb from POTTSTOWN, PA

I made this pie 3 times last summer and it turned out great. The next time I made it, it didn't set up. OK, I figured it was some fluke. We ate it anyway over ice cream. This afternoon I decided to make 2 for my Bible study group and they didn't set up again. I had the ingredients for 2 more. This time I heated the egg/milk mixture to just about boiling. It set up in no time. It got rave reviews! Now that I know what the problem was, it will turn out perfect next time.
