Fill these Cream Puffs with Abuelita Chocolate Sauce with your choice of whipped cream or cream cheese to create a crowd pleasing dessert that is perfect for entertaining or when you want a special tasty treat for friends and family. Top with whipped cream, thinly sliced fresh fruit or powdered sugar.
- CREAM PUFFS
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- Whipped cream or Cream Cheese Filling (recipe follows)
- 2 tablets (90 g each) NESTLÉ ABUELITA Authentic Mexican Hot Chocolate Drink
- 1/4 cup NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
Fresh fruit (optional)
FOR CREAM PUFFS:
PREHEAT oven to 450° F. Spray 2 baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray.
BRING water, butter, sugar and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan. Stir in flour until incorporated. Remove from heat; cool batter slightly. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition with a hand mixer. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto prepared baking sheets; bake for 15 minutes.
REDUCE temperature to 325° F. Continue baking for an additional 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven; cut off tops and set aside. Remove loose strands of dough to create inner cavity.
FOR CHOCOLATE SAUCE:
PLACE Abuelita and evaporated milk in small saucepan. Cook, stirring frequently, over medium heat until mixture boils. Boil, stirring occasionally, for 1 minute or until sauce is smooth.
PIPE or spoon in whipped cream or cream cheese filling; replace tops. Top with chocolate sauce and fresh fruit.
CREAM CHEESE FILLING: Place 4 oz. room temperature cream cheese and 1/2 cup powdered sugar in mixer bowl. Mix until combined. Fold in 8 oz. prepared whipped topping (thawed). Pipe or spoon into cream puffs.
