    Just Okay

Pam Scopa from Pembroke Pines, FL

I was looking for a recipe with sweetened condensed milk as I opened the wrong type of milk for a different recipe. I made this with high hopes. It was okay. It was not nearly as "creamy" as the recipe name suggests. I ended p making shakes for the kids out of it. So it wasn't a complete loss. I didn't use it until the next day so maybe I just left it in the freezer too long and should have used it the same day. I may try again sometime.

This is one excellent ice cream recipe. It doesn't get much easier or tastier. I have also tried variations by adding extra ingredients. After the 1st 30 minute freeze and the second mixing with the beaters, I stir in chocolate chips, oreo cookie pieces and even tried rolo candy pieces, then refreeze for the 4 hours and then it's MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm GREAT !!

My husband and I got an electric ice cream maker and we've been using this recipe and it's great. The first recipe I tried called for cooking the eggs. This is so much better because there is no eggs. We sometimes melt chocolate or puree bananas to change the flavor up. We also use 2 cups half and half and 2 cups heavy cream sometimes.

Review for Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream

Yvonne S Reed from St Louis, MO

This is the best! I mix up in bowl, cover and refrigerate over night, or put in freezer until ice crystals form on side of dish. Then put into ice cream maker. I have also used a pint of half & half, and 2 cans carnation milk along with the evaporated milk, and increased vanilla to 2 1/2 Tablespoons. Either way, it is the best and easiest to make.

    Great reduced fat ice cream

    Diane Schwar from Kutztown, Pa

This is the best tasting reduced fat ice cream I tasted. I varied the recipe, by using fat free condensed milk and 1 carton each of fat free and regular half and half. It still tasted creamy. You never know that is reduced fat. I surprised my husband. He even liked it.

  • Star(s)

    Fat free variation

    Amy from Lancaster, WI

You can make this recipe fat-free by using fat free sweetened condensed milk and fat-free half & half. You can barely tell the difference. Also when making a fruit ice cream frozen sweetened fruit works best. One 16 oz. container is more than enough. This recipe works great in an ice cream maker.
