A show stopping dessert -- Devil's Food Cake with a rich, chocolate frosting. Perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • CAKE
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Baking Cocoa
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • FROSTING
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup butter, cut into pieces
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Grease and flour two 8-inch-round baking pans.

FOR CAKE:
COMBINE
flour, sugar and cocoa in large mixer bowl. Stir in mayonnaise and vanilla extract; beat for 2 minutes. Combine warm water and baking soda in small bowl. Add to cocoa mixture slowly while beating until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pans.

BAKE for 25 to 30 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in centers come out clean. Cool in pans for 15 minutes; invert onto wire racks to cool completely. Frost with Frosting.

FOR FROSTING:
BRING
cream, butter and sugar to a simmer in medium, heavy-duty saucepan, stirring until butter melts. Remove from heat. Add morsels; let sit for 2 minutes. Whisk until smooth. Whisk in vanilla extract. Pour into medium bowl. Refrigerate for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally, until frosting is thick enough to spread.

AMAZING!

I made this cake one sunday just for fun, and it was DELICIOUS! Every member of my family loved it. You couldn't even taste the mayo one bit, it made it sooo rich and moist, we will definetely be making this again. We tried making this cake with a orange cream cheese frosting and it was DEVINE. I definetely rate this recipe 5 star.

Better than average

I thought this recipe was ok. My husband thought the cake was good but the icing wasn't sweet enough. I think it would be better with milk chocolate chips instead of semi sweet. My coworkers really liked it though.

Mother's Day

I made this for my mom for Mother's Day and she loved it and so did my whole family. It was like a brownie, moist and chocolaty.

The frosting was the only half decent part of this recipe. The cake had no taste. I followed the recipe perfectly and usually when people give a good rating I trust they are correct. I made this for my Mother-In-Laws birthday and no one liked it. Once you got past the frosting part there was no flavor to the cake and nothing about it made us want to eat more.

Oh so good!

I made this cake for my dad's birthday and he loved it! It was so good and moist, rich and creamy. The only thing I changed was that I used milk chocolate chips for the frosting instead of semi-sweet. It still was fantastic! I don't think I'll use the semi-sweet next time either it was so good.
