good recipe, but amt too small

    valerie bryce from tigard, OR

I made this crust and it came out well, flaky and tasty, but I barely had enough to fill the pie pan (9.5"). I would have liked to have more available on the sides for fluting. 1/3 more would have been perfect. I know how to double the recipe, but not sure how to add 1/3rd.

I have done various recipes for pie crusts and have gotten mixed results. I made sure to watch the video and I loved the tip of using floured wax paper -- that was really helpful. But, I am unsure if there was enough dough -- I rolled it and rolled it. Another thing...I am unsure if it had enough flavour. I am going to keep looking for another recipe...you win some and you lose some.

Every time I tried to make a pie crust it was either to thick and fell apart. I always had a hard time getting the crust to be flaky. This is easy to make and you do not have to keep taking the time and expense to go out and buy pie crusts now. This is easy to make and anyone can do it. I did.

    Butter makes it better

    Kelly Jones from Honolulu, HI

The texture of this pie crust was pretty good, but the shortening does nothing for the flavor. Using 1/2 cup of butter instead of the shortening gives it a better taste, and adding a tablespoon of sugar or so helps to give it a nicer brown color.
