I made these using a box mix (cake-style method) and baked 20 minutes then poured on the topping and baked an additional 18 minutes. The brownie was moist & the topping gooey & sweet. I made them for an office party & only the plate was left! Comments were to bring more next time! Easy recipe that looks like it took all day and gets great reviews. I'll make these again.

Made these for the people I work with, they loved them! They are really rich so make sure you have milk on hand. I was also shocked at how sticky they were after baking. I'd make it again but cut down on the milk.

    Macaroon Brownies always a Success

    NICOLE RENNER from WYANET, IL

Macaroon brownies are always excellent with the combination of chocolate and a great coconut mixture. Anytime I have a craving for coconut, I head for this recipe. I've made with our own homemade brownie mix, and also have saved some of the batter for a topping, and works out just as wonderfully. (I've also done half coconut and half caramel mixture if I was undecided on which to brownie "mess" to make.)

    JENNIFER MATTOCKS from UTICA, NY

Excellent brownies, very moist, and not too sweet! A couple days later and it is more moist than day one and tastes like a restaurant dessert! I made my own brownies from a fat free mix baked at 30 minutes. Taking a tip from another reviewer, I also used one cup of the swirled morsels instead of the semi-sweet. Definitely need a cup of chips! Will try a different chip next time for variety (though the swirled are excellent!) and will try using low fat sweetened condensed milk.

    Holly Mnuk from WAUKESHA, WI

After looking at four different grocery stores for the brownie dough I ended up with the fudge nut cookie dough. Harder to work with (had to pick out the nuts) and had to cut the temp to 325 and the first bake time to 15-20 min. Still yummy but quite a fiasco.

    macaroon brownie bars

judith egan from QUAKER HILL, CT

This was my first try on this recipie. I found that if you use smaller teaspoon full of batter to top the brownies it makes more of a uniformed top layer. When I went to bed the night I made them, there was a full 9by 13 pan on the table. When I got up the next morning, they were 3/4's gone. My husband liked them so much he ate pretty near the whole batch.

If you love chocolate and coconut, this is the treat for you:) My store does not carry the brownie bar dough so I used a box mix. This worked just fine. The coconut topping was wonderful! I used the new swirl chips with the coconut - a nice visual addition as well as a sweeet touch. These are delicious:)
