  • CAKE
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Baking Cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 6 tablespoons NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Baking Cocoa, sifted
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Grease two 9-inch-round baking pans or one 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

FOR CAKE:COMBINE flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, oil and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl on medium speed for 4 minutes. Add eggs; beat well. Gradually beat in flour mixture alternately with milk. Spread into prepared pan(s).

BAKE for 20 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan(s) for 15 minutes; invert onto wire rack(s) to cool completely. Frost with Rich Chocolate Frosting.


BEAT powdered sugar, cocoa, milk, butter, oil, vanilla extract and salt in small mixer bowl until smooth and creamy.

Great First Impression

I had been craving to make a chocolate cake from scratch for quite a few weeks, even after I bumped into this recipe. I waited so long to actually try it because I had baked a vanilla cake from scratch months before and I didn't like the way it turned out. Curiosity eventually took hold of me and I gave this a go. It was extremely delicious. The fact that it was the first chocolate cake I baked from scratch made me very happy. =)

The Very Best

I bake 5-6 days a week, even for local restaurants. This cake by far, is the best chocolate cake I have ever made. My problem is, I have to go pretty far for the Choco-bake, our local stores dont carry it. But I do the drive just for this awesome cake....Glad to be a part of your website.....
