Instant cocoa cannot even compare to the real thing!. Splenda in place of sugar is great, too.

    snow day lifesaver

    Belinda Bagnal from Wilmington, NC

We live on the southeast coast and my children have not seen snow in 4 years. Imagine our fun to wake to 4 inches this morning. I didn't have any hot chocolate mix in the house, but I had Nestle cocoa powder. I looked up the recipe and the kids thought it was the best hot chocolate ever.

    Beth Bozzo from Lynwood, IL

We use a bit less sugar when we make it because otherwise it's just too sweet. I also love putting in different flavors than the vanilla extract. One of my favorites is a touch of orange extract :)

Sounds like the traditional way to make hot cocoa (the way we did when I was a child, before the little instant packets came out!) Once you have it this way, the other way is just not as good!

    YUMMY Quick Fix

    Amanda Cline from Paola, KS

I used this recipie when I ran out of packets. I noticed that another "best baker" tried it so I gave it a shot. The kids were raving about it tasting different. It was that I had used milk instead of water (like the packets sometimes suggest). They loved it.

I made this for my 2 year old daughter's first cup of cocoa tonight and she loved it! It was very easy and very tasty! It was also pretty rich, but if you don't like it that way you can always dilute it a little.

Cold mornings, yes even in Florida my 22 year old daughter wanted some hot chocolate. All I had was Nestle Toll House Cocoa, and I remember my mom making it for me. I went on line, got the recipe and she informed me it was the first time I had ever made homemade hot cocoa for her. She said it was "extra special because it was made with love". Thank you Nestle.

    Memories

    Wanda Wishart from Clackamas, OR

My mom taught me to make this when I was a young girl. So when I had my own kids I would make it for them also. I used to make it and put it in a pump thermos bottle and take it to the mountain with us, when we would go to play in the snow. It would really help to warm us up. Now I look forward to making it for my three year old granddaughter.

I'm drinking this after I made some for myself and my husband. He just came in from snowblowing our neighbors and our sidewalks and driveways. Because he played nice with his toy and shared, why shouldn't he get a reward. And it tastes great. Hot chocolate evokes so many warm and fuzzy memories, doesn't it?
