SUBSTITUTE Carnation Evaporated Milk for regular milk or water called for on the label.

NOTE: For Quick Cream of Tomato Soup with less fat, use Carnation Evaporated Lowfat Milk or Carnation Evaporated Fat Free Milk.

    Years ago in the 50's early 60's this is how my dad made the soup. Since than that is how I make mine and taught my son the same thing. Makes it creamier and richer tasting. On a cold day it is so good. Even on a warm day, warms my tummy and makes me feel good.

    I love cream of tomato soup on a cool evening. I warms me up like no other meal in the world. I was really surprised to see this recipe just like how I make the soup myself. I always add 3/4 of a can of milk to my soup to make it extra creamy. I was looking to see if someone made it any different. good to see that great minds think alike.

    I have always loved the creamy, wholesome taste the undiluted Carnation Evaporated Milk gives my canned Tomato Soup. I had my Grandchild over and we had Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. She wanted some crackers, to dip in her soup. She told me that I might be disgusted by how she was going to eat them, and I told her, not to worry, eat them anyway you want. She dipped the crackers in her soup, and I dunked my Grilled Cheese in mine, she said yuck! I told her to try it, she might like it. So she did, and now she's a Grilled Cheese dipper as well! She doesn't even ask for crackers anymore! Please don't ever stop making Carnation Evaporated Milk! You'll break this old lady's heart!

    Yes, this is a creamy, delicious and easy recipe. I generally rub some basil between my fingers and add it to the soup, as well as 1/4 bay leaf, which I remove before serving. The flavors are wonderful; I always get good comments about the unusual taste of tomato soup when I add my "secret" ingredients!

    Was I ever surprised when I read this! :-) . I really thought I was the only one, ha ha ha , who used Carnation can milk to make my tomato soup, however I mix the milk and water half and half in the can, want to get "every" bit of that tomatoe soup. I have told many people that I use can milk and they have acted surprised, that's why I was surprised. Yes it is "great", Anna P.S. Tomatoe soup and grilled cheese is my Granddaughter's favorite "confort" food , when she's sick.

    Add a about a tablespoon of minced onion, a teaspoon or so of garlic, and some parsley. Add a pat of butter to each serving. I did not really care for tomato soup growing up. My mother made it with water instead of milk. In college, a friend was making this in our dorm kitchen. I tried it, loved it, and have made it for my family ever since. My nephews and my children don't like it any other way.

    For years, tomato soup was always made with milk. My grandma fixed it that way as did my mother and I naturally followed suit. Then one day, years ago, I fixed a can and it didn't taste the same. It was if the soup company had taken something out of their soup. For a long time I didn't even eat tomato soup again because I was so disappointed. Then I got a really bad craving for some tomato soup, so I thought okay, what can we do different? I decided to try a can of carnation milk to see if it would help and low and behold I was hooked on tomato soup again. And of course the crackers always top it off.

    My Fiance loves grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. I have used Vitamin D milk in the past, as he prefers milk versus water. When I made it with the evaporated milk, he said that it tasted so much better and I was happy that he noticed. I didn't tell him what I had done, to test him on the taste and it worked!     Tomato soup is on our Lenten menu...always. This time I followed your suggestion: using Carnation fat free condensed milk. I put the contents of the soup can in a saucepan, and rinsed out the can with 1/2 a can of milk...then with 1/2 can of water....using a wire whip to mix everything in gradually, Making a smooth and creamy result. After dishing up the hot soup, I sprinkled the top with grated sharp cheddar. Served with home made baguette bread, toasted under the broiler with butter and onion powder, and it was a terrific tomato treat.

    The milk often "dulls" the tomato-y flavor. To make this better, add a canned of crushed tomatoes or petite diced tomatoes. Bring to a boil and serve. Awesome!
