  • NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk, amount per package directions
  • 1 package of your favorite mashed potato flakes

Directions:

SUBSTITUTE Carnation Evaporated Milk for regular milk in instant mashed potatoes or any variety boxed potato kit that calls for milk.

NOTE: For Quick & Creamy Mashed Potatoes with less fat, use Carnation Evaporated Lowfat 2% Milk or Carnation Evaporated Fat Free Milk.

    I always use evaporated milk in my mash potatoes, along with salt, pepper to taste. never any left overs. I have never swapped out the reg milk in instant potatoes but will give that a try

    I add a clove of roasted garlic - jazzes it up. My family prefers the potatoes cooked from scratch rather than the instant. But I still use the evaporated milk (just like my mom used to do) as it seems to make a world of difference.

    I tried it with the Carnation Evaporated milk and the potatoes were great. Also, if you are tired of just plain mashed potatoes, try adding a packet of ranch dry mix to your potatoes for an added extra flavoring.

    I prepared my instant mashed potatoes the same way back in the 1960's substituting evaporated milk for most of the water and for all of the homogenized milk. Everyone insisted that I had made the mashed potatoes from scratch since their instant ones did not taste like mine.

    Awesome potatoes!!! I usually use just plain whole milk in my potatoes and found this recipe and also the one with using Carnation Milk in instant pudding and WOW was it good. We usually have left over potatoes and pudding when I make it with whole milk but not when I use Carnation milk in them. The bowls are scraped clean! If you haven't tried it - your definitely missing out.
