I also have used this milk for many years. Found its most appealing while camping or R.V.ing. Always available for every meal. I do love S.O.S. not only for breakfast, but any meal. For the meat it can be ground beef or pork. I have also used cooked chopped sauage. Add the milk plus a little water and butter. Thicken with either flour or corn starch. Season as you like, I like season salt and garlic powder.

I cook a full-blown turkey dinner at least 4 times a year, which I did last Saturday. After removing the finished turkey from the oven, I went to mash the potatoes. To my horror, I had no evaporated milk on hand. So dinner was delayed as I had to make a quick run to the store. I had plenty of milk on hand but I like getting the raves from the family on how wonderful my mashed potatoes are. I will now make it a point to pick up a couple of cans every week at the grocery store, whether or not I need them. I am glad this site also pointed out the other ways to use the milk, i.e. puddings, mac & cheese, etc. I will start using evaporated milk for these also. Thank you.

When I was growing up everything that we cooked was homemade. Nothing was instant. We cooked alot with carnation milk and with that I though we were rich. It's the best milk to use in anthing that you add milk too. At breakfast when we had biscuits and gravey and with the carnation milk in it - it was just like being in heaven. Nothing beats or can even come close to carnation milk at least not in my book.

I have been Chief cook and bottle washer around here for 35 yrs. I almost always substitute Carnation Evaporated Milk in any recipe that calls for milk and even for some of the water that recipes call for. And I whole heartedly agree it improves anything you use it in. It addsa creamy, smooth and richer tastes. I would never even consider anything else in my mashed potatoes or soups. If they removed it from the shelf my baking would nose dive !!! And boy do I bake up a storm.

In a taste test with my family I prepared half the mashed potatoes with low fat milk and half with low fat evaporated milk. Everyone preferred the evaporated milk. The consistency was thicker (which they preferred) and definitely more flavorful. Less butter could be used when using evaporated milk.
