The Sneaky Chef's Cheery Hot Cocoa

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen pitted cherries (no syrup or sugar added)
1 cup water
3 cups lowfat milk
3 packets Dark Chocolate Flavor CARNATION® BREAKFAST ESSENTIALS™ Complete Nutritional Drink

 

Directions

Bring cherries and water to boil in a medium pot. Turn heat to low and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Occasionally mash the cherries with the back of a spoon (or a potato masher) to help release their juices. Pour into a fine mesh strainer over a container or bowl, pressing the cherry “pulp” with the back of a spoon until all the liquid is released (you can save this cherry pulp to add to homemade cookies, muffins, or smoothies).

While cherries are simmering, place milk in 1-quart microwave-safe container. Microwave on HIGH (100%) power for 4 minutes or until very hot (almost boiling). Stir in Carnation Breakfast Essentials Drink and strained cherry juice.
