Whipped Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk Topping is a recipe you can use without having to be concerned about fat. Chilled instant nonfat dry milk, unflavored gelatin and sugar make this topping a treat you'll find easy to serve and enjoy.
- 1/2 cup ice water
- 1/2 cup dry NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Instant Nonfat Dry Milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 2 tablespoons boiling water
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
COMBINE ice water and dry milk in large mixer bowl. Freeze bowl, milk mixture and beaters for 15 minutes. Combine gelatin and cold water in small bowl. Let stand for 3 minutes. Add boiling water; blend well. Cool to room temperature.
WHIP chilled milk mixture until stiff peaks form. Add gelatin mixture, sugar and vanilla extract. Whip just until blended.
NOTE: If whipped topping develops an airy appearance, simply stir vigorously to restore smooth appearance. For best results, prepare same day as serving.
Recipe makes 3 cups.
Review This Recipe
This was very good on top of cobbler. It has a unique taste which is great with homemade desserts, so why not go all the way if you are taking the time to make a homemade dessert to make the homamde whipped cream? It is well worth the extra time!!
Whipped Carnation Nonfat Dry milk topping
This is like the recipe my husband's grandma used to make him when he was little. He loved it.
Great quick and easy topping
Since you can keep nonfat dry milk around all the time, it makes it so nice to have a weay of having whipped topping without having to rush to the store and let it defrost. You just make it fresh each time you need it.
You Can Flavor It
This came out so good that I decided to experiment with it. I had some left over white cake so I made the whipped topping but with a twist I added a teaspoon of cocoa powder and 1 package of artificial sweetner it was to good to be true. I am going to try other flavors after this right now i'm thinking of putting in a teaspoon of mint flavoring. YUMMY.
I have tried this Whipped Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk Topping on my gelatin and puddings and pies and no one in the house knew that is was low fat and loved it.
Healthy & Always On Hand
This is great! It stores on my shelf till I'm ready to mix it up. It's healthy, low calorie, and tasty.
I tried this on our dessert last night. (cheesecake)And it is so delicious! I will for sure continue to use this instead of the carton type of whipped topping!
Whipped carnation nonfat dry milk topping
I use this product to top off cream puddings and gelatins. However, I have misplaced my recipe. My experience with this product has been well received by my family and I heartedly endorse it!
When I first saw this, I thought, "Why not just buy the fat free whipped topping at the store?", but when you taste the result, you'll be glad you added this extra laye of home made deliciousness! It really makes a great difference on top of your strawberry shortcakes, EXCELLENT on ice cream, and if you want to think outside of the box, top it on a piece of toasted white bread (you'll be suprised!). But, nothing beats this chilled topping on a bowl of fresh, sweetned fruit! (and it's healthy!)
Add this to your home journal.
We all love whipped topping, and this recipe beats non-dairy topping hands down. So you have to actually do something to create it, at least you know what is going in it, you could change the flavorings to make it complement your desert or drink that you are using it for. I used it for pumpkin pie this year. I am keeping this recipe in my home journal. I will no longer buy prepapaired whipped topping. This is so much healther for my family, and worth the effort.
Wow what a great idea! Now I don't have to buy the whipping cream and worrying about it going bad before I can use it up before it is whipped.
This is a good recipe. worth checking out. Thankyou.
I had no idea I could make whipped topping out of non-fat dry milk, which I always have on hand. Simple and tasty! Thanks!
It was easy to make. I used for malted milk shake.

I tried this and it was so easy to make
Pretty darn good!
I was amazed at how this whipped up and the taste is certianly acceptable.
Whipped Carnation Nonfat Dry MIlk Topping
This is great. The topping holds its shape and is great to work with. Added bonus -- it tastes great.
Whipped Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk Topping
This was so easy to make. And it fat free, too. A great addition to fruit, esp. for those fat-conscious!
Better than Ready-to-Eat Any day
This recipe may not be as easy as opening up a tub of ready-to-eat, but sure has a better taste.
Whipped Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk Topping
I think your (as my) review of this recipe will depend on your dessert you are serving it with. On one hand, it requires more effort with the mixing of several ingredients, chilling time, etc. than opening a tub of whipped topping. Conversely, this is low fat and the taste is acceptable. We had the topping on the top of angelfood cake and fresh sliced peaches (which are in season) and it just melted in your mouth. I don't think the topping would hold up in another dessert where you would depend on some thickening. Now, I'm wondering if the leftover might be incorporated into some other dessert, say a pudding-based one? Maybe.
I was looking for the recipe made with the powered milk, lemon juice and water that was put out in the 60's when I worked for a school cafeteria and the recipe was supplied by the government school lunch program. Was very easy to make and held up well for seving.
This was such a great alternative to using ready made whipped topping, and I like the reduced fat grams, but not the flavor
Good Use For Dry Milk
I have not tried this myself as yet but intend to in the near future. One of the women who is a member of our Ladies' Club brought it to a pot luck and I thought it was great. I really liked it better than cool whip.
